Commemorate International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

with Battered Women’s Support Services

Changing women’s lives NOW

And ending violence for future generations

Guess what?  It’s 2016 and there is no better time than NOW when it comes to ending violence against women. It’s been 25 years since the United Nations designated November 25th as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and throughout these past 25 years BWSS has been deep in the trenches and on the streets, and in the boardrooms and in the classrooms because we know violence against women is everywhere.  And now we’re on the internet because violence against women is there, too.

“We know that the pandemic of violence that affects 1 in 3 women and girls can be stopped. But we cannot do it alone. We need partners who help us raise awareness and promote a culture of zero tolerance toward this pervasive human rights violation,” ~ Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN Women, 2014

This reality is alarming and that’s why we’re asking you to join on Friday, November 25th as we commemorate and launch the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender Violence.

We have been using the tools of our generations to resist and transform, to shift conversations, shift attitudes, to use our sharp elbows to make space for more voices and today there’s more platforms for the voices, more survivors are finding their voice, using their voice and taking their space to tell their stories and resisting male violence…and what we know is that when the voices of change get louder so does the backlash.

It would be an honour to have the pleasure of your company at our special event. It will be an evening of commemoration, celebration, and connection with community leaders, change makers, and supporters from all sectors. Your presence will highlight your years of dedication to preventing and ending violence against girls and women and help BWSS raise funds for our critical and essential services.

For 37 years, Battered Women’s Support Services has provided free and confidential support, counselling, and advocacy to thousands of girls and women throughout Metro Vancouver and beyond.

Battered Women’s Support Services cordially invites you, to an evening commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the launch of BWSS 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence on Friday, November 25, 2016
