For a second year, Battered Women’s Support Services had the pleasure of hosting a group of women’s equality advocates. We met in the morning at our direct services office to discuss women’s issues, barriers for women’s equality and the work we are all doing to create positive change. It was an empowering and positive conversation.

Following our gathering at the office, we made our way to BWSS’s social enterprise, My Sister’s Closet. The women did some shopping, donated items, got to know the volunteers, and learned about the local artisan program

Before leaving they gifted us with a Fuguro bag which was handcrafted by Watalis, a group of women who gathered in the wake of the earthquake in 2011 to create the bags and raise funds to help rebuild their community. It was beautiful to see the commonalities between our work to end violence and support women in their empowerment processes.

We are so looking forward to next year and meeting another group of women, learning, and strengthening our relationship as part of the global feminist movement.
