Scotia bank Half Marathon and 5K Less Than A Week Away!
We are just a few days away from walking and running in the Scotiabank Half Marathon and 5K in support of BWSS. So far we have raised 50% of our $30,000 fundraising goal!

Fran Ostry
I have been at My Sister’s Closet for more than six years. Every day that I volunteer I am met by women and girls who come in to the store from various ethnic, religious and cultural communities that are grateful for the money we raise for BWSS. Many of the women with whom I work and with whom I serve have accessed the services of BWSS. Unfortunately there are still too many women and girls on waiting lists. I am participating in this event because, unlike the women and girls accessing or waiting for services from BWSS, I am free to do so. Please help me broaden our services and shorten the waiting lists

I joined BWSS with the intention of “giving back” to the community yet, one year later, it has given me more than I could’ve ever imagined. I spent 1 afternoon anxiously interviewing for a spot in the volunteer intake; 12 weeks of training, learning, and being vulnerable with a group of strong, insightful women; and 6 months working on our crisis lines. And though we’ve made progress, we’re still running our own marathon. Our finish line? Ending violence.

Each year I run in the 5k in support of BWSS because i believe in the ending violence work that happens every day at BWSS not only on the front line but also systemic advocacy and social change . I have been so inspired by all those who have sponsored me and support the crucial work that BWSS does. I know that together we can reach the fundraising goal!
