Yesterday, over 50 women were present at Battered Women’s Support Services Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2013 held at My Sister’s Closet, community thrift boutique.
Cecilia Point, Musqueam (and BWSS society member) opened the proceedings with a welcome and the Strong Woman song. The evening featured speeches including keynote by Chief Jim Chu, Vancouver Police Department, our remarkable Board of Directors and Executive Director Angela Marie MacDougall.
The evening drew on the past 34 years of collaboration that has moved change forward through advocating for an effective systemic response. Highlights from last year included our advocacy work regionally in Vancouver, across province and nationally, specifically for migrant women, refugee women, those who do sex work, missing and murdered Indigenous girls and women, legal advocacy and New Family Law Act.
We want to thank all our Society members and guests that included representatives from The Law Foundation of BC, The Ministry of Justice, Dixon Transition Society, Downtown Eastside Women’s Centre, Vancouver Park Board, Canadian Union of Public Employees, Vancouver Police Department Domestic Violence Unit, and our auditor Manning Elliot.
Together we are stronger and we can carry our ending violence effort further than we ever dreamed possible.
Thank you for your support.
Here is a glimpse of our AGM…
