Special Feature: Feminist Strategic Litigation in Action
Learn about Battered Women’s Support Services’ (BWSS) upcoming intervention in the Supreme Court case Ahluwalia v. Ahluwalia. This landmark appeal addresses financial compensation for survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV) and whether courts should recognize a new tort of family violence.
Guest Speakers:
- Caitlin Ohama-Darcus and Nicole Welsh, lawyers for BWSS from Lawson Lundell LLP, will discuss the strategic litigation involved in this pivotal case and its implications for advancing justice for survivors.
About the Facilitator
Celia Zhang (she/her), Project Coordinator at LEAF, will lead the session. An intersectional feminist with extensive experience working and volunteering in feminist organizations, Celia brings expertise from her work with Action Canada for Sexual Health and Rights, Choice in Health Clinic, and the Toronto Rape Crisis Centre.
