Many women who experience violence are mothers.
- As many as 1 in 4 women experience physical and/or sexual violence during pregnancy which increases the likelihood of having a miscarriage, still birth and abortion.
- Almost 6 in 10 women with children who were assaulted by spouses said their children heard or saw the violent episode (59%)
- In 2010, police-reported physical assaults accounted for 81% of incidents committed by spouses, against senior women.
