My Sister's Closet Seymour announcement

My Sister’s Closet is moving

I have some exciting news to share, My Sister’s Closet is moving permanently to 3958 Main Street!

Our lease has ended at our beloved Seymour Street location, the new landlord has other plans for the space and as the saying goes, when one door closes, another one opens. Maybe you have already visited our pop-up location on Main Street? Lucky for us the space just became available for lease, and everything fell into place quickly. I wanted to share this with you right away.

We have made some incredible friendships over the fifteen years we have been downtown, My Sister’s Closet continues to grow because of you, and we can’t wait to see you soon. Fun events are planned to celebrate our fifteen years on Seymour and a new beginning on Main Street, none of this would be possible without your support and commitment to ending gender-based violence.

Our new permanent home on Main Street and our Commercial Street location are open seven days a week for donations and shopping, the Seymour Street location is open until May 31. As you may know, My Sister’s Closet is run by volunteers with 100% of funds raised supporting the BWSS underfunded 24//7/365 Crisis Line.

Fabric is second to oil or gas as the biggest polluter in contemporary times. Our work is to raise awareness around violence against women, but also about fast fashion and sustainable fashion.

In our 21 years of thrift fashion to end violence, My Sister’s Closet has diverted over a million pounds of textiles from landfills – our one-year record was 68,000 pounds – let’s make 2022 a record breaker!

Of course, this is also an emotional transition for many of us, our storefront at Seymour and Helmcken Streets was chosen in 2007 for its important history. The city block was frequented by sex workers in the ‘80s and ‘90s and our location was close to where sex worker Elaine Allenbach went missing in 1986. We will always remember Elaine and the thousands of missing and murdered women everywhere, thank you again for your ongoing support and our shared commitment to ending gender-based violence.

We hope to see you soon at our Seymour location until May 31, our Main Street and Commercial Drive locations are open now for donations and shopping.

Yours sincerely,
