At Battered Women’s Support Services we had these dreams about and advocated for Mary-Ellen Turpel Lafond and Judge Marion Buller Bennett to lead inquiry with community advisories led by Aboriginal women. We kept thinking and dreaming, and hoping, it seems beyond hope, that they would get it right this time…this time…
I feel in order for aboriginal women to led anything we must be educated. We as aboriginal women must learn the way to be heard not only by the public and news but also by the government. We must learn to fight at a level that we will be heard and not tossed aside because we did not go about doing things the right way. Also think about how other races moved forward. They had leaders that were well educated an knew how to deal with the government on the governments own political ways. So education is must for us to succeed and rise above all these preconceived notitions we are faced with on a daily basis.
