Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI) by Jaclyn Sauer

Youth and Philanthropy Initiative is a project that engages young
students (grades 9 & 10) throughout Canada in creating social change in
their communities and connecting with grassroots, community based
organizations. It provides students with an opportunity to connect with
community organizations diligently working toward social change and in
the end students create a presentation about the work of the community
organization of their choice.

This year three grade 10 students from
Panorama Ridge in Surrey – Amneet, Kiran and Nausheen – selected

Battered Women’s Support Services and the issue of violence against
women as the focus of their presentation. They created a passionate and
dynamic presentation about the ending violence work at BWSS and the
impacts it has on women’s lives.

Through interviews, video, art and
poetry they powerfully presented the significance of working to end
violence against women and our work at BWSS. Their presentation was
selected to be apart of the finals for their school and they
successfully won first place and $5,000 for BWSS. We are thrilled at

BWSS to have had the opportunity to work with such passionate young
women and are inspired by their commitment to create meaningful, social
change in their communities! Thank you for your work, Amneet, Kiran and
Nausheen!
