We at BWSS are aware that there are currently at least four “serial-type” stranger sexual assaults reported in the Metro Vancouver area, UBC, Vancouver and Burnaby. Last night in Burnaby, there was a community meeting about safety after sexual assaults. The majority of the audience were women and we heard a lot of dissatisfaction with the information provided at the meeting. Many expressed exhaustion with being inundated with the same old safety tips for women to prevent sexual assault. “Be aware of surroundings, walk with purpose, limit distractions, avoid isolated areas, proper footwear“.
This is a call out to women who have something to say to amplify our voices on what is going on in our community around our safety.
