Prevention and Intervention Training for Women

By Jaclyn Sauer

BWSS continues to provide the successful and transformative Prevention and Intervention Training for women who wish to volunteer on our Crisis and Intake Line. This intensive twelve week training program, provided from a feminist, anti-oppression perspective, is conducted in a popular education style. This training, often described as “life-changing” by participants, enhances personal empowerment, self-awareness and the leadership skills of women attending.

Through the exploration of an extensive range of topics including theoretical frameworks of:

  • violence against women,
  • crisis intervention skills,
  • group facilitation skills,
  • criminal, family and immigration law and

many other topics participants are equipped with a solid foundation for working to end violence against women.

Following the training women volunteer at BWSS on our crisis and intake line, co-facilitating support groups, and in other areas of our direct service programs. Volunteers also participate in exciting community engagement and violence prevention work at BWSS.

We are looking forward to beginning the next training session on September 17th with twenty new women!

We will be offering the training again in March 2011 and there are already 30 women on a waitlist for this training. If you would like to learn more about this volunteer training program or would like to be added to the waitlist, please contact Jaclyn at 604-687-1868 ext. 303 or at intake@bwss.org
