Battered Women’s Support Services, represented by Rosa Elena Arteaga, is in Montreal this week to participate as members of Canadian Council of Refugees Working Groups. We are happy to participate with other Refugee and Immigrant rights advocates/activists to exchange information, network and develop policy positions on violence against newcomer women.
At Battered Women’s Support Services we have seen a rash of deportations of Refugee women applying for safety in Canada after fleeing their home country because of violence in their intimate relationship.
As part of Engaging Immigrant Women in the Legal System program we are beginning systemic advocacy to address this area of concern for women’s safety in collaboration with Refugee and Immigrant rights advocates/activists from across Canada.
